Menelaus is angry that his servant, Eteoneus, did not extend hospitality to the strangers immediately, as they themselves had often been welcome at the tables of strangers during their journey home from the wars. Hospitality was an important part of the Greek culture.... you fed and housed visitors, strangers and friends, with the same respect.
