What is an example of defying the gods in book 1 or 2?

Odysseus is famous for falling to temptation and making an enormous mess of things...... the one thing he pays for from the very beginning of the Odyssey is the blinding of Poseidon's son..... Odysseus sis not do as he was told and because of his actions (or should I say thoughtless specch) was responsible for the blinding of Polyphemos. Poseidon greets Odysseus with trouble at every turn because of this.
