The Odyssey

The Odyssey Book 9

Can someone help clarify this please?

"They fell in, soon enough, with Lotus Eaters, who showed no will to do us harm, only offering the sweet Lotus to our friends but those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotus, Never cared to report, nor to return: they longed to stay forever, browsing on that native bloom, forgetful of their homeland."

The Lotos Eaters are a peaceful people who eat the sweet, pleasure-producing plant, the Lotus. Once Odysseus' men have had a taste of this pleasure producing plant, they have no wish to leave..... they don't want to go home..... ever. None-the-less, Odysseus forces them back on the ship.
