How does Homer maintain the audience’s interest in the story, knowing that the audience is aware of the outcome from the very beginning?

Homer maintained the audience's attention by using poetic language and metrical phrases. Metaphors, similes, and repetitive language, in addition to the suspense within the text, all serve to grab the reader's (or audience's) attention and promote interest in an already familiar story.
