You have to love this. Gods take sides in the affairs of men, squabbling in their own metaphysical soap operas. Zeus helps Odysseus leave the island (book 5) which pisses off Kalypso. She at least gets some Goddess-human love action out of Odysseus before he leaves. Poseidon hates Odysseus so he tries to drown him but he nereid, sea nymph, likes Odysseus too and saves him. As you can see the relationship between Gods and humans is a tangled web of sex, deception and power.
