The No-Guitar Blues Background

The No-Guitar Blues Background

"The No-Guitar Blues," written by Gary Soto, is a short story. It is about a boy named Fausto, who very much wants a guitar. He asks his parents, but they say that guitars are too expensive. He then tries to think of ways to get a guitar. After a couple of hours, he only manages to get a quarter. He gets an idea to get money, because he finds a dog than belongs to a rich family. When he returns the dog, he spices up the story, and he gets $20. He feels bad about this, and donates it all to the church.

This story shows how telling the truth is very important. After Fausto gives it all to the church, he feels much better. Soto's story, indeed, shows how conscience can dictate your actions.
