Symbols would include the necklace itself, which appears to be expensive and exquisite, but is in reality a fake. This represents the illusion of wealth in the eyes of Madame Loisel. The necklace also represents how wealth itself is built on vanity and external validation, rather than anything substantial. It is for all intents and purposes, no more than an illusion.
