What actions do the Loisels take to resolve their problem?

Mathilde and her husband go looking for a necklace to replace the one she lost. They find an "identical" one for 30 thousand Franks and spend the next 10 years paying it back.  Basically Mathilde and her husband go into debt. They lose their house, their maid... they lose everything. Of course, by the end of the story, they discover the original necklace was merely a fake.
