Why was mathilde unhappy with her life at the opening of the story? Do you think Mr. Loisel was more content with his life? Why or why not?

Mathilde was unhappy with her social and economic status in life. She was born into a working-class family and always felt that she deserved an extravagant lifestyle. She marries a common government worker, which seals her fate of being middle class for the rest of her life. This makes Mathilde desire to be rich even more. Her husband, on the other hand, seems content with his middle-class existence. His stress comes from his wife's dissatisfaction.
