The Necklace

Early, in "The Necklace," Madame Loisel has a certain attitude toward her school friend, Madame Forestier. What is this attitude? What causes her to feel this way?

I don't know if her feelinings would be considered an attitude. She is quite simply envious. She resented her friend because she had "more".

She had a rich friend, an old school friend whom she refused to visit, because she suffered so keenly when she returned home. She would weep whole days, with grief, regret, despair, and misery.
