The third person narrator tells us, by direct representation, what Madame Loisel’s thoughts are.

She suffered endlessly, feeling she was entitled to all the delicacies and luxuries of life. She suffered because of the poorness of her house as she looked at the dirty walls, the worn-out chairs and the ugly curtains.

The narrator is skilled in presenting an archetype character that Madame Loisel represents to the reader: a person not satisfied with life: having a sense of entitlement.
