Write an argument regarding whether Gogol should have changed his name or not.

Gogol struggles with identity. In particular he struggles with his Indo-American identity and rebels against his parents throughout the book. Changing his name is all wrapped into how he sees himself racially and visa relationship with his parents. Does a new name (a western name) separate himself from his parents? How about his identity as an Indo-American? These are some of the themes you might consider.
