After Gogol's birth, Ashima continues to feel lonely and isolated, When Ashoke goes back to work, however, she branches out... taking walks to the store and enjoying the compliments she receives about her newborn son. After awhile, Ashima begins to fill her days with the routine of caring for an infant... her days are no longer spent alone and idle, as she takes on the responsibilities of motherhood.
