There were a couple of false clues that I can think of around the time he was killed:

-People were wandering around the estate when they claimed to be elsewhere,.

-We are introduced to strangers which throws us off the real killer. 

Discover of a wedding ring with the inscription "R" from the goldfish pond.

A "goosequill" and a peace of ''cambric" from the near by summer house.

Flora claimed that she had wished her uncle good night at 9.30 pm and so on..
