The biggest change in Rainsford is the respect he gains for the animals he hunts. At the beginning of the story, Rainsford can almost be seen as heartless. His response to Whitney's question of whether or not animals feel something more than fear is less than empathetic. By the end of the story, he has gained a new perspective on the hunt, as he has experienced the other side. I don't think he'd ever be able to see the process in the same way again. He might even finally admit that a jaguar's feelings might be worth consideration.
