The Most Dangerous Game

What does the quote suggest about rainsford character ?

" now he got a grip on himself , had stopped and was taking stock of himself and the situation .. he saw the straight flight was futile ;inevitably it would bring him face to face with the sea , he was picture with a frame of water and his operations . Clearly must take place within that frame "

Rainsford is a logical thinker under pressure. He can figure out the odds of succeeding under different courses of action. He knows that if he doesn't fight Zaroff, the sea is his only escape out.
