The Most Dangerous Game

The Most Dangerous Game Discussion Question

In “The Most Dangerous Game,” humans are described as the one animal that can reason, but humans fall for obvious tricks and are hunted like animals. Humans use the environment to their advantage, but sometimes the environment becomes a trap. What is the relationship between humans and animals, or between humans and nature? Do humans control nature, or does nature eventually triumph?

In terms of the text, The Most Dangerous Game, humans manipulate the environment, but they may also be defeated by their own traps. Humans do not control nature, though humans can prepare against the worst and hope for the best.

In context, humans see themselves as superior to animals. Yes, humans are able to reason, and humans also have the ability to create technology that makes them increasingly superior. It is important to note, however, that in the case of the hunt..... animals are far more in touch with their instincts and often thwart man's most carefully planned actions. This is why humans love the challenge of the hunt.

As to the question of humans controlling nature..... think about natural disasters..... are we really in control?
