It appears that you already have decided what you think about the answer to the question. The more important questions is whether, even with a lesser stock of weapons, a human opponent can outsmart Zaroff. Although it would seem impossible to outsmart the General, we see Rainsford do that. Therefore, we still have to give credit to the human intelligence combined with the prior hunting experience that Rainsford has.
