No, they don't exist in real life. This is essentially an escape story. This means it is only meant to entertain. Zaroff lives alone, except for Ivan who isn't a talker, on a deserted island. He resides in a giant gothic castle, all he seems to do is read and hunt people.Do you know anyone like that? Zaroff is a flat character only meant to provide conflict in the story.
