What traditional mythic tropes occur in this story?

The whole atmosphere of this story is creepy. Gothic imagery is seen throughout the narrative. The story is essentially a horror chalked full of supernatural imagery and dark imagery. Consider the White's son dying after the wish is made for 200 pounds. Then there is the zombie like version of Herbert coming to the door at the end of the story.
