Mr. and Mrs. White and their son Herbert sit in their cozy family home one stormy evening. Father and son are playing chess while Mrs. White knits by the fire. The scene seems idyllic. Mr. White is impulsive in his game of chess. Herbert seems skeptical of his father's move. This, perhaps represents their relationship. As the story goes on, we see Mrs. White is able to manipulate her husband.
