The Monkey's Paw

How does the sergeant-major react when asked if he's had his wishes?

Why doesn't Jacob tell us specifically what happened to either the sergeant-major or the first owner of the paw when they made their wishes?

The sergeant simply says, "I did," said the sergeant major, and his glass tapped against his strong teeth. I think he is purposely vague about the other wishes because he did not want the old couple to judge the paw prematurely.
