The Monk

How far is 'The Monk'an appalling and shameful exercise in anti-Catholicism?

The Monk is mainly considered as an Gothic novell. Isn't it rather a vituperative attack on the Catholic faith?

This all depends where you are coming from. To a devout Catholic who takes stories at face value, yes it is offensive. If one looks at it as simply a gothic tale that involves individuals and not a sweeping critique of the Catholic faith, it isn't necessarily anti-Catholic.
