Favorite character and why

I think this is asking for your opinion rather than mine.

Nicholas Derr is my favorite character because he selflessly gives Elise hope, gifts, friendship, and ultimately he gives his heart to her. He also protected her from facing more painful consequences when his profession allowed him to intervene on her behalf. I believe advocating for a broken person like Elise makes him an admirable, enriched character.
