Gregor symbolizes the extraordinary killed by the people who once loved him. Gregor's change turns him into vermin, a rotting slimy bug. But is Gregor really vermin or is it is his family who perceives him as vermin? Gregor could have evolved into something quite beautiful. Here we have the Christ-Figure motif. Gregor willingly sacrifices himself in the most terrible way for his family and their very human prejudices.
