Reading Kafka’s letter will most likely illuminate many of the themes from the previous days’ readings. For example, students will most likely observe that Kafka’s relationship with his father has clearly influenced his formation of Gregor Samsa and Georg Bendemann and the characters of their fathers, in general. Encourage students to probe the text of the letter further to make more precise connections. In this discussion, students should draw comparisons between two or more of the three main texts.
