A) When forced to stay at an inn, she chooses a fancy in because she says, "we must be respectable." Ironically, she ends up serving other people there.

B) The fact that she offers her services as a helper, in the hope that the landlord will give them a discount shows her independence of thought. Her wheels are turning all the time.

C) This would be the same scene; Elizabeth sacrifices her dignity to save her mother money.
