Spade's purpose?

After all the fuss, what does Spade really want from the beginning? is it the money? Or finding out the truth of Archer's death?

In my opinion, Spade's ultimate purpose is making money, as evidenced in the numbe of cases he accepts and the conflicts he faces. There is also a code of honor involved, Spade wasn't exactly a fan of his partner..... he was even having an affair with Mile's wife. None-the-less, his murderer must be turned over at any cost.
