What is the meaning of the story, Shining Houses, by Alice Monroe?

I think the theme is the importance of the old among the new. Mrs. Fullerton's old house stands out among the new houses in the neighbourhood. Mary feels that the house need to conform to modern aesthetics and that there is still value and meaning in the old.
