The Lottery and Other Stories

What is the first point in the story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson at which you sense something is not quite right?

What specifically generates that feeling?

This is really asking for your opinion rather than mine. I recall a sense of nervous apprehension as Tess Hutchinson appears into the crowd making excuses about being late because she had to do the dishes.
