Why do you think they're so concerened with everyone being there qnd finding replacements for those who are kissing?

Everyone must participate in the lottery..... it's a town tradition. Every family must be represented, and all family members must be present. If a family member cannot be present, someone in their family must draw for them. There is no mention of looking for replacements for those who are kissing.
