The Lottery and Other Stories

the lottery

where do you think "The Lottery" takes place? What purpose do you suppose the writer has in making this setting appear so familiar and ordinary?

The lottery seems to take place in a public aquare or gathering place. The Lottery is filled with irony. Part of this irony is the familiarity that Jackson gives to the rural people and the setting. The ending becomes that much more ironic.
