In the book called The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, why do you think so much time is spent describing the black box?

why do they talk about it so much

The black box is a huge part of the tradition, thus, the townspeople don't want to give it up. Their of reluctance to accept change is a precursor to why they do not give up the tradition of the lottery itself.
