Each of these questions calls for your opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. In context, I can't imagine the entire town's participation in such a horrific event..... in fact, I can't imagine anyone being complacent.

The townspeople are obviously influenced by their neighbors... mob mentality.

I make it a priority to never do anything simply because someone else wants me to.
