How are women presented in the play?

Women are presented as pawns in the play, The Lion and the Jewel. Although, the female characters themselves are depicted as opinionated, manipulative, independent, and outspoken, their lives are, none-the-less, dictated by men. Ultimately, Soyinka and Sadiku are powerless.
