True Son must wear English clothes , he thinks they represent the evil ways of the whites.
This is double edged. Whites enforcing prejudice through clothes and Indians thinking all whites are evil.
In Chapter 8 Bejance says: "I'm never free from white folks."
Cuyloga tells True Son: "Now go like an Indian, True Son. Give me no more shame."
Parson Elder illustrates prejudice and evil on both sides:
"It is not only the white man who breaks the sixth commandment ("Thou shalt not kill") ... Evil and ugly things have been committed against the will of God on both sides."
