True Son must wear English clothes , he thinks they represent the evil ways of the whites.

This is double edged. Whites enforcing prejudice through clothes and Indians thinking all whites are evil.

In Chapter 8 Bejance says: "I'm never free from white folks."

Cuyloga tells True Son: "Now go like an Indian, True Son. Give me no more shame."

Parson Elder illustrates prejudice and evil on both sides:
