Ichabod is tall and extremely thin with a huge appetite and a certain amount of greed. He is very much a caricature of the uptight schoolmaster that is physically weak, which juxtaposes his intelligence. Irving plays up the awkward physicality of Ichabod in physical situations like when the headless horseman is chasing him.
