why did amir throw pomegantes at hassan

Amir is filled with self-loathing after Hassan's rape. Not helping Hassan eats away at his soul. One day, while sitting under a pomegranate tree, Amir asks Hasan what he would do if he hit him with a pomegranate. Hassan says nothing. Amir turns all his self hate onto Hassan and hits him.
