The dreams are actually a recurring motif in this book. THe dreams are metaphorical projections of longing and dread. There is the dream of Hassan and Amir drinking from the same breast. There is also the fortune teller with the horrible prediction for Hassan and finally there is Amir lost in a snow storm and being guided to safety. All of these dreams involve foreshadowing, both literal and metaphorical, of the future.
