What do we learn about Amir's mom in Chapter 20 of The Kite Runner?

In Chapter Twenty, the old man, a former professor described Amir's mother as beautiful, dignified, and a woman of grace. He told Amir she was a "great woman", that she was happy, and that she found her great happiness frightening, as if someone were going to take it away.
