The Kite Runner

How does Amir's framing Hassan of stealing his watch effect the story? Why is it significant?

Thanks :)

Amir hates himself so he frames Hassan. Hassan's presence reminds Amir of his own cowardly weakness and guilt. Amir is hoping that Baba will send Hassan away for allegedly stealing a watch.
