Explain in detail what a "no monster" means

The morning of the tournament, Hassan described his dream to Amir. Hassan relates a dream that has both of them swimming in a lake to prove that their is "no monster". The people were so overjoyed, that the boys inherited the lake. Later when Amir was afraid to fly the kite, Hassan comforts him by saying that there is "no monster."
