The rain symbolizes a sense of truth and even cleansing. Suddenly, all Amir's feelings of entitlement-to his privileges and to Baba's affection-change because he understands that Hassan deserved those things, too. Baba contemplates his true motivations for the way he treated Hassan, Amir, and Ali. Now Baba is about to lose Hassan and Ali and his emotions are washed over like tears in rain.
