The Kite Runner

Discuss the idea developed by Khaled Hosseini in The Kite Runner about the interplay between fear and foresight when individuals make life altering choices.

I have to come up with an essay about this topic and I am really getting stumped.

This is a pretty detailed essay question for this short answer space. Certainly Amir pays for his lack of foresight when, as a boy, he chooses not to help Hassan when the sociopathic Amir rapes him. Amir pays for this decision for the rest of his life. Understandably Amir's fear played the major role in not helping his friend and brother. There are other examples through the novel. Your topic is a motif in the book.

What are the other examples through the novel?

You can consider Amir's last chance at redemption when he travels to Afghanistan in order to bring Hassan's son, Sohrab, back to the United States. Amir lft his safe comfortable life in America to go back to his wor ravaged country. Amir faced capture by the Taliban. Amir also would face Assef who would most certainly savagely punish him. Amir's foresight for some redemption was stronger than his fears. Ironically, The beating that Amir takes from Assef becomes a cathartic experience for Amir.
