Why is having Baba's approval so crucial to Amir?

Amir always longed for Baba's approval. Amir spent his life trying to get it. He yearned for validation in his father's eyes. This has much to do with Afghan culture between father and son. Baba's approval would give Amir a sense of identity that he never had.
