What do we learn about Amir's character?

The story's narrator and protagonist. He is an Afghan man who had a privileged childhood in the Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood of Kabul. The defining event in his life is his betrayal of his closest friend, Hassan. Amir is an articulate child who constantly seeks the affection of his father. Amir has alot of self-loathing for a variety of reasons. The biggest one is not protecting his friend fro Assef, the local bully.
