A time when America was being criticized in the book?

I'm having trouble finding an event in the book where America and/or Western ideals are being criticized. Or an event in the book where people say they want to attack America, or when they say they despise the West. Something along those lines. It can be any character.

Farid criticizes American wastefulness.

"It's always the same thing," Farid said. "Sell this land, sell that house, collect the money, and run away like a mouse. Go back to America, spend
the money on a family vacation to Mexico.
