Self-destruction

If somebody suffers from a severe case of depression or any other mental disorder, it is extremely important to help that person on time. The governor of New York City has a rather strange idea of helping people with mental illnesses, for he allows building the Lethal Chambers. The author, Chambers, invites a reader to a world, where the most disturbing nightmares come true. It is a place, where self-destruction doesn’t bother anyone, the only thing it manages to do is to give a rise to indifference.

Insanity

Insanity is one of the most intriguing and disturbing states of mind. It is impossible to predict what an ill person can do and it is next to impossible to understand what he/she thinks about. Chambers manages to create characters, whose insanity is contagious, it requires from a reader a lot of work to draw a line between madness and reality.

Unease

Every person knows that kind of feeling when everything seems to be just fine but there is something that worries you. This is a feeling of unease, the one which can drive a person crazy. The sense of unease grows and enhances atmosphere of suspense. Due to the fact that Chambers’ characters have basic fears such as a fear of death or the supernatural, readers can’t help but homologate their feelings and the characters’ ones.
