Ona and Jurgis wanted a small wedding, while Teta Elzbieta shamed them into an entire feast like they would have had in the old country. The older generation caused the younger generation to begin their marriage in debt.

"In the latter part of November they hired a hall, and invited all their new acquaintances, who came and left them over a hundred dollars in debt."
