    Unlike the other six stories in this collection, "The White Seal" is not set in the Indian Jungle. Why is it included in The Jungle Book?

    Students will probably mention that "The White Seal" shares many of its themes with the Mowgli stories (such as courage, loyalty to the group, and the importance of finding a home where one feels comfortable and accepted).

    Students will probably mention that, like all the stories of The Jungle Book, "The White Seal" is focused on animals. They may point out structural similarities between "The White Seal" and other stories from the book.
